More Horowitz on the Black Panthers and Their New Left Supporters

By Brian Carnell

Monday, December 20, 1999

After David Horowitz blasted his former New Left colleagues for their support and continued silence over the murders committed by the Black Panther Party, the two he mentioned -- Stew Albert and Art Goldberg -- wrote letters to the editor to Salon claiming he misrepresented their views and actions. Goldberg is the most interesting as he simultaneously asserts that a) everyone on the New Left knew that the Panthers were engaged in illegal activities but b) Goldberg co-wrote a book with Huey Newton's attorney casting Newton as innocent victim which he has never repudiated. In fact Goldberg hasn't published a single word since, except in response to Horowitz, intimating that the BPP may have been anything other than the heroic revolutionary party of Leftist myth.
