Daniel Ortega: I'm A Changed Man

By Brian Carnell

Thursday, June 14, 2001

The BBC recently reported that Daniel Ortega will represent the main opposition party in Nicaragua's upcoming presidential election.

After being confirmed as the Sandinista candidate in May, Oretga said that if he is elected the Sandinista's would recognize private property rights and seek a non-confrontational relationship with the United States.

The BBC didn't report on whether or not Ortega would attempt to forcibly relocate Miskito Indians, nor whether or not current president George W. Bush would consider financing guerillas to bomb hospitals and power facilities should the Sandinistas return to power.
