Eric Alterman Celebrates Green Party Election Disaster

By Brian Carnell

Tuesday, November 12, 2002

It was interesting to see Eric Alterman openly celebrating the Green Party's wipeout in New York state during last week's elections. The Green Party failed to hit the mark of 50,000 voters in the governor's race, meaning it will have to mount an expensive petition drive if it wants to be on the ballot in 2004 and 2006. The day after the election, Alterman wrote,

In New York, one tiny bright spot is that the parasitic “liberal” party, and the counter-productive Greens got what they deserved: oblivion: The smart, progressive Working Families Party earned itself over 82,500 votes however. Will those among the honestly misguided Greens take away any lessons from this?

The one bright spot of the election was the destruction of the New York state Green Party? Hey, don't look at me, this is Nation-boy saying this.
